Developer of curriculum, software and learning experiences for learners like you.

About me

Fifteen years building software at companies like Microsoft and Electronic Arts taught me the value of process, teamwork and accountability. Now, as educator and learning experience developer, I use those skills to help others reach their potential.

My Journey

2004 – 2009

Designing for engagement

My start came as a tools dev for large companies: testing MSN Messenger at Microsoft, then building animation tools for The Sims at Electronic Arts. A desire to stay connected to the social needs in my work brought me to Penn’s Institute of Cognitive Research, where I designed interactive math modules with Penn and UCLA faculty and tested them in Philadelphia middle school classrooms. The work was later featured in The New York Times (2011), and presented at the Cognitive Science Society (2008).

2009 – 2016

Software that helps

At the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, I led development of game-based interventions for children on the autism spectrum and helped run the play sessions, where the games met the kids they were built for. At Penn’s School of Nursing, I helped develop a PTSD training course for nurses, later featured in a 2014 White House fact sheet. At Little Bird Games, I built a learning platform for Duke University that helped 400 Chinese high school students prepare to apply to U.S. colleges, and a game suite for an ADHD study.

2017 – 2019

Leading teams

At Argo Digital I stepped into the technical lead role, running a four-person agile team through sprints, standups, and retros, sitting down with clients for user interviews, and owning CI/CD on AWS. At Vertex, I helped rebuild an enterprise tax product in React and brought behavior-driven testing along with me.

2019 – 2022

Moving to the front of the room

Then I turned to face the class. I began teaching full time: high schoolers at Allstar Code, Comcast employees retraining as developers at LaunchCode, and remote cohorts of 50 to 100 adults at Bloom School of Technology. At Bloom I also designed and rolled out the Canvas system every instructor relied on.

Designing the learning itself

At Galvanize I moved from lead instructor to curriculum developer, owning an AI-integrated program and helping lead the AI curriculum rewrite. I earned an M.S. in Learning Experience Design and an M.F.A. from the Iowa Writers’ Workshop, which sharpened how I write for learners, and designed a poetry curriculum that now lives in New Jersey schools.
